I know how hard it is to deal with a loved ones passing. Jon was like a Father to me in the short time I knew him . His faith and family values were unmatchable. We walked in the parks and talked every time we could. I miss him . His children grandchildren and great grandchildren lost a great example. Sunny take your time to grieve , but enjoy everyday as Jon did.

On behalf of the Savannah Airport Commission and myself, I offer these remarks on a great person, distinguished veteran, exceptional airport management professional and good friend. Jon came to us here at the airport in December of 1990. (The picture below was taken not long after that). He was selected and hired by Eldon "Dave" Davidson who was Executive Director at the time. Dave was very selective, and he selected Jon to be our new Director of Public Safety. I knew he must be good since Dave picked him out of many candidates. Dave was right. Jon was good. When Jon first moved to SAV from Texas he pretty much came alone initially. He came with no furniture to speak of and slept on a bed roll in the apartment he was renting. I would invite him over for home cooked meals so I got to know him pretty well. Thats when I learned about his time in the military flying UH-1's in combat, working at Ft Hood, then working at a pawn shop and a couple small airports before he took the SAV job. I think he liked the pawn shop job because he would always bring that up. He also always was thinking about his daughters. When Jon first started here we were it the planning phase for a new terminal complex so there was plenty for him to do to get ready for that. We began construction in 1992 and moved to the new facility in 1994. It was a very busy and challenging time for us and Jon did a great job. Jon was perfect for the position he held because it requires one to be very particular and for those of us that know Jon know he is very very particular. Very. Jon retired from the airport in in 2001. Much of his work lives on today. Subsequent to his retirement Jon would drive out to visit us often. Then the visits became less often. Then they stopped about a year ago. I enjoyed those visits. Jon loved the airport and the airport loved him. He will remain an important part of our airports history. Rest in peace Jon. You will be missed.

This was the Father I met one day that has proved to be a great man..His humor, intelligence, quick snappy replys made us instant friends...His memory will never be erased from my thoughts and prayers..I know he's in much better place sitting at the head of a table with that friendly smile..God bless you Jon...my captain, my captain!!

My condolences to you and your family on the loss of your beloved husband Jon. I am writing because of an amazing incident today. Last week I found an unlabeled compact disc (CD) among my many music CDs and had no idea of its contents. I put it in a disc reader today (Nov 24). On the disc are hundreds of photos of a China tour (2000?) and Vietnam photos from 1967-68. Jon's name and address is on a Word document (on the disc). I looked him up online, and learned of his recent passing. I think he sent the disc to me after meeting him at an airport in Vancouver (July 2001?). My thanks to your husband for his military service.
